An Emerson Impact Partner's Customer saves money by reducing carbon footprint & enhancing safety with Emerson low bleed instruments. Offshore oil facilities spend a considerable amount of money on the generation of instrument air. There is cost associated with the power (which is often scarce in these facilities) needed to run the compressors and labor to maintain the compressors. In these facilities the use of “instrument gas” is common to operate pneumatic instruments. Overall carbon emissions and production are affected by the bleeding of this gas by pneumatic instruments. It also creates several safety concerns, especially in enclosed work spaces.
By using Emerson’s Energy Responsible Tool, the customer was able to directly compare low-bleed instruments to the older, higher bleed counterparts. Upgrading to state-of-the-art instruments saved money on generation of Instrument Air and Instrument Gas. It also reduced overall Carbon Emissions by reducing the venting of hydrocarbons, which increased the safety of their facility.
